Discover incredible places in the Pastureland of the region
If there is one thing that stands out in our region, it is the great cultural, natural and gastronomic diversity, a perfect combination that allows the realization of all kinds of activities in a unique environment.
The territory has a very varied morphology formed by areas of Mountain Range to the south and Penillanura to the north. In the mountains you can discover the beauty of a unique ecosystem such as the dehesa, in this environment the goddess Ataecina (goddess of rebirth, fertility, nature, the moon and healing) left her mark. Her sanctuary was located near the basilica of Santa Lucia del Trampal, located in Alcuéscar, it is said that the healing powers of this goddess are manifested in the waters of the fountains and springs that were near the sanctuary. In addition, in the mountainous areas of our region you can find a large number of marshes and reservoirs, such as the Salor Reservoir, an idyllic place for bird lovers. This place serves as a refuge for a large number of birds such as grebes, ducks or cranes, which migrate every year to nest and feed.
There are a lot of routes where you can enjoy nature and the landscape while hiking and / or cycling. Take advantage of this activity to contemplate the best views of the region from some of the natural viewpoints offered by the Sierra del Centinela, the Sierra de Montánchez or the Sierra de la Mosca. Take a selfie and show off the views of the territory. In Valdemorales you can visit the wineries and the beautiful corners of its streets. But its greatest beauty is the beautiful valley on which it sits. To regain strength we recommend you to taste the gastronomic products of our region, such as the Montánchez ham (Carlos V’s favorite) or the delicious fig chocolates from Almoharín.
In addition to unique heritage resources such as the castle of Montánchez, and quality gastronomic products, the territory celebrates every year festivals of interest that you can not miss, such as the carnival of the Jurramacho de Montánchez, the oldest in Extremadura, with about 200 years of tradition, which has recently been declared a festival of regional tourist interest; or the surprise of Arroyomolinos. A historical recreation where the Arroyomolinenses represent the battle that took place during the War of Independence on October 28, 1811, which ended with the defeat of Napoleon’s army against the Anglo-Spanish-Portuguese army.
