Description

The route starts from the Plaza Mayor of Botija and enters the Dehesa Boyal, a natural environment characterized by holm oaks and cork oaks. From there, it reaches Villasviejas del Tamuja, an ancient fortified settlement of pre-Roman origin. The itinerary continues towards the Molino de la Muralla, located next to the Tamuja river, a hydraulic mill dating from the 18th century. Following old roads, one reaches the Old Bridge, built between the 16th and 17th centuries and consisting of three semicircular arches. Next, one arrives at the Hermitage of the Most Holy Christ Resurrected. Further on, the route crosses the Iron Bridge and allows a visit to the Fuente de la Huerta, known for its ferruginous waters. The path continues to the Puente del Verraco (at kilometer 12.7), a large construction with 14 eyes and 13 buttresses, where a Veton verraco was found. The last section continues along the Montánchez road, passing by a stone cross, and ends at the Church of Santa María Magdalena, located in the center of the municipality.
