Description

The Fiesta de las Tablas is a traditional celebration of the Cáceres plains held from December 25 to 27, whose origins date back to the 17th century. It combines religious, folkloric, and social elements, and is one of the most representative festive rites of the area. Its main participants are the "quintos" and "quintas", young people who formerly reached the age to be drafted into the military, who participate as a symbol of passage into adult life. During the noon mass, they present the "tablas", wooden boards decorated with offerings that represent abundance and the continuity of tradition. After the ceremony, the quintos tour the village carrying the tablas, accompanied by neighbors and visitors, singing and dancing to the rhythm of the "Chás-carri-rrás", played with traditional instruments. Hospitality is essential, with wine and food shared in homes. The traditional attire, rich in color, reinforces the cultural identity of the festival.
