Description

A set of about 230 dry stone buildings located in the Dehesa de la Zafra, also known as "el prao". These buildings were used for the traditional breeding of the Iberian pig: each had a farrowing pen (where the sows gave birth) and an exterior pen for the animals to move around before fattening. This group was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2017 for its great ethnological and historical value. It reflects how rural communities took advantage of the environment's resources sustainably and how the pig was key to their economy. Today, these corralás are a symbol of the popular heritage of Extremadura, an example of traditional architecture, and a place that connects with the memory and customs of the rural past. A unique corner that deserves to be known and protected.
