Description
The Vía de la Plata, following the route of the Roman road from Seville to Astorga, has been used as a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela since the Middle Ages. Its name, from the Arabic “Ba La Ta”, means paved road. Numerous traces of its history remain along this stretch through Extremadura, including the milestones beside the Santiago de Bencáliz Bridge in Aldea del Cano, the Roman bridge over the Ayuela River in Casas de Don Antonio, and the Visigothic basilica of Santa Lucía del Trampal, near Alcuéscar.
This hostel, located near an old bullring and offering views of the Sierra de Montánchez, provides modern services in a peaceful, welcoming setting designed for walkers to rest. Its location makes it a strategic and pleasant stop on the way to Santiago.
